“The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is long-suffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.” –II Peter 3:9
God is extremely patient with us. Because He does not punish sinners on the spot does not mean He is approving of their (our) evil thoughts, words and actions. It means He is waiting for them (us) to do the only thing they (we) can do to be saved: repent (change our mind, change our direction), which includes believing in (fully trusting in, adhering to, and relying upon) His Son, Jesus Christ.
The keynote message of Jesus is “The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand: repent ye, and believe the gospel.”—Mark 1:15
God waits for the sinner to repent. He waits for His church to repent. He waits for you and me to repent. But He does not wait forever. Hearts may soften. Hearts may harden. Death comes we know not when. People perish for lack of knowledge (Hosea 4:6). People perish because they have not heard of and believed in the only begotten Son of God. People perish because those who are called to go do not go out as the early apostles did.
“And they went out, and preached that men should repent. And they cast out many devils, and anointed with oil many that were sick, and healed them.—Mark 6:12-13
The promises of salvation are conditional upon our repentance and faith. We are called by faithful messengers to turn from our wicked ways to Jesus Christ. Once we do, we are also called to proclaim the glorious message of Jesus and the apostles so as many as possible can enter the land of God’s promise where there is salvation, deliverance and healing.
“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” -John 3:16
His message of promise is our message to declare and demonstrate. Don’t be slacker in sharing it with someone today!Share
